The Maypole, Surbiton

Like others before me, I found this to be a lively and friendly pub. But the ale choice wasn’t so good when I visited on Friday afternoon, with only Doom Bar being available, and another handpump apparently unused. I don’t know if they do food – I didn’t see any menus. Even though it has been largely opened up, it does have separate drinking areas. In the room at the back towards the beer garden there’s a pool table, and in the smallish area to the left of the main entrance there are a couple of sofas. But overall it’s quite traditional, with a dartboard at the back of the main bar area. Decor is mainly rugby themed, with numerous photographs of players on the walls, a signed and framed England shirt, plus rugger balls on the top of the bar back. I don’t think that this pub is good enough to make a special effort to visit, but it’s certainly good enough to visit for a pint or two if you’re anywhere nearby.
