The Coronation Hall (JD Wetherspoon), Surbiton

There’s not a lot to add to what previous reviews have said. It’s a Wetherspoon’s so you know what you are likely to get in the way of ales, food and prices. But on my first visit the other evening I was very disappointed by the ales on offer. Instead of the usual variety, they were apparently in the throes of an Adnam’s Beer Festival, which meant that they only had Adnam’s ales on. I’ve nothing particularly against Adnam’s ales, but I would prefer a choice. However, the interior is quite spectacular, with all manner of cinematic paraphernalia scattered around, photographs of movie greats on the walls, and for some reason one wall in the middle of the room had the planets of the solar system depicted in relief. Interesting, but I did have some reservations as to its astronomical accuracy as two of the planets had rings. Anyway, for a ‘Spoon’s it’s pretty good, and I would be happy to give it another go in the hope of getting a better ale selection.
