The Bear (JD Wetherspoon), Melksham

The Bear is an original pub which closed in 2011 and opened as a Spoons the following year. This looks fairly obviously an original pub from the outside but inside it could be just about any old building. It's a long open plan room with the bar on the right and that narrows down towards the rear. There are tiles around the bar area and wooden floors with a carpet at the back area. They have some strange plastic seats here that look as though they've been taken from a local school. The bar has ten hand pumps which had one unused, two ciders, the JDW Trio Of Doom, Shepherd Neame Todd the Axeman & Spitfire, Twisted WTF and Brain's SA. I went for Todd the Axeman which was excellent and at the Standard guest ale price of £2.35. Despite not having done much with the interior this is a reasonable Spoons and GBG 2017 listed.
