The Bulls Head, Coventry

Attractive old coaching inn, and still operating as a hotel, albeit thoroughly remodelled and modernised inside and out but not completely losing all of its character. Entering through the courtyard, you find various seating / dining areas inside, all with the vaguely inoffensive 'charm' of a Vintage Inn to the general visitor if not the traditionalist... Two of three handpumps in use, offering Doom Bar and Purity Pure UBU (£4.75).

More a restaurant than pub with most of the tables laid out for diners. Standard range of national beers. The TT Landlord was fine.Sat outside in the pleasant rear garden

A large updated roadside pub that is laid out for eating. It seems popular and caters for a certain (up)market clientelle. The car park has numorous cameras to look over the collection of Range Rovers in the car park. Its rather trendy inside, old but with modern touches such as glass walls. The front lounge has a mixture of sofas and standard dining furniture, the further lounge is a little more conventional & again laid out for dining. The menu looked appetising and the prices starting around a headline price of around £10 - but beware the 'extras' such as veg or chips need addding on (£3.50 for chips). There is a garden at the rear, along with an outside patio type area as you walk in, where the horses may originally have been, which, whilst furnished with wicker chairs, could be made more of. 3 real ales, including on my visit a Bitter & Twisted so straying slightly from the predictable easy choice, though the quality could be better. Its a nice effort to udate and upmarket a roadside inn, a bit too hooray for me personally, but its popularity suggests they are doing a lot right. If I could give 6 1/2 I would, improve the beer quality & it would be a 7.
