The Roebuck, Cannock

Still as below, a small but nice pub that has been done up well. I visited this pub about a year ago not knowing what to expect, never having tried Thwaites except in a bottle and not liking it. Had a pint of Bomber and it was fantastic, wow, just goes to show you should keep an open mind. Thwaites is very rare in this area. However, the pub shut for a refurb earlier in 2009. I visited recently and the beer was not as good. I went in on 9th October and it wasn't busy, I was waiting at the bar behind a bloke being served by the landlord. He was finishing & one of the locals came in, obviously a buddy of the landlord, & he started pouring his beer first. Sorry, but its a pet hate, I hate locals pub in this respect. Walked out & found a better pub.

A large, white rendered, Thwaites pub, once painted yellow with black spots, when it was home to the Monster RL Party. There is a beer patio. The interior is open plan, with a dining area, pool and dart room, small area with quiz machines and the bar. The decor is a mixture of exposed brick and plain white wall, with a lot of rugby memorabilia around the place. The seating has been recently replaced and its looks clean. The bar itseld is a nice wood one and there is a TV. The new chap has scrubbed it up quite well, he was friendly, but there was really no other clientele in when i last visited. Beerwise, its great to see a pub without C*rling, John Smith, Worthington and Stronbow. Being a Thwaites place, they have their own smooths, and i had the Dark Smooth, which is a MILD really. It was fine. There was one handpull, Lancaster Bomber, but this wasnt on when i visited, though he did assure me it was a regular. I used to play football for the pub, so it was nice to go back in. I thought the place was fine, though i was near enough on my own. Will be going back to try the Bomber.
