Golden Star, Norwich

A two bar Greene King corner pub not spoiled by progress. There’s a bar on each street face of the building, the one on Colegate seems to be the main one, both are long thin rooms, the Duke St one has three pulls of an older style and appear unused. The main bar has a set of six, two on cider duty Abbott and plus three interesting local beers, two others are unclipped, there’s also two low T-bars with nothing unusual. Tile and board floor, wainscoting and cream walls, distressed counter, even a cast iron column. Friendly enough place with decent beer quality. Oh the door on Colegate sticks so give it a shove.

A good looking small street corner pub in the city centre owned by Greene King.The interior is authentic with traditional furniture,wood panelling and a front and back bar all very charming.A friendly welcome and I suspect another local heroes lease so besides the regretable GK IPA and Abbot,there was at least Moongazer Pintail and Lacons Norfolk Gem (NBSS 3) .For apple fans two Rosie Pig handpulls. In the 2013 GBG but not enough for me to consider a revisit but a decent pub none the less.

A pretty pub in all respects, the interior felt particularly characterful with a wood tile floor, nicotine shades on the walls and ceiling (along with embossed wallpaper), pot plants and lots of old windows. No piped music, which was a nice novelty. Another Norwich pub still insistent on table service, the (Norwegian?) barmaid was a sight for sore eyes at least, friendly and efficient. Ales on; 2x GK, one each from Wolf and Lacons, the latter’s Legacy was ok (NBSS 2.5), plus two ciders in addition. A pleasant stop – better beer would have really boosted it. Worth a look-in. Visited early August.

Greene King pub to which I paid my first visit yesterday, on a tour of the city's pubs. It's a corner pub with a couple of rooms. We sat in the front bar, where the toilets have been made unisex. Greene King IPA & Abbot are the regular ales. Guests were Green Duck Orange Wheat Beer & Oakham Citra, whilst there were also a couple of ciders - Weston's Rosie's Pig & Lilley's Mango Cider. Customers and staff were friendly and generally interested in hearing about what pubs we had on our itinerary!
