The George, Twickenham

According to the small print at the bottom of the menu this is a Spirit pub with the John Barras branding. I've been in a number of John Barras pubs, and this is easily the least good one that I've visited. There were just the two ales on - predictably London Pride and Doom Bar (£1.62 a half). I had already bought my beer before I realised that I was in a Barras pub (I didn't notice any of the usual branding signage) and thus could have got the 10% CAMRA discount. Of course the usual large glossy pubco menus are everywhere offering the usual pubco stuff, including all manner of meal deals. Buy a burger and get a drink for a quid - overpriced at a quid as the only bitter available in the deal is John Smith's. This is a low-ceilinged gloomy looking place. It's got the usual mix of tall tables/tall stools and normal tables and chairs; TVs are all over the place; and I saw at least four one-armed bandits cluttering up the place. I guess this pub would be fine if you wanted to watch TV as there are enough of them in here, but it's not the sort of pub to which I'm likely to return.
