The Eel Pie, Twickenham

Twickenham is not an area greatly endowed for good pubs but this must surely rank as the best; A welcoming traditional boozer with a fair range of ales; Badger, Sussex Bitter and Hopping Hare all available at very reasonable prices and in good condition; London Drinker and other reading materials also available whilst I waited for my associates to arrive. A fine pub, decorated in traditional style and infinitely better than the substandard pubs closer to the train station. Definitely worth a gander.

Randomness Guide to London - Eel Pie entry

The Eel Pie remains my favourite pub to visit whilst in Twickenham. It is a traditional olde-world style pub ideally situated in the quaint and largely quiet (except for match days) cobbled street of Church Street which is located a short stroll from the River Thames. A multi roomed wood beamed interior with the main bar area being quite small and narrow and does tend to get crowded with punters who linger round the bar after getting served. Plenty of Rugby memorabilia, including autographed shirts and team pictures, and some interesting stuff on the Hall and Woodhouse brewery. And that leads to the other big plus of this pub, being the full H&W beer range all served in the proper glasses, and I have never had a bad pint of Tanglefoot in here. Even on Saturday when visiting after the Zurich Premiership Final when, as eluded to by Maldenman, the pub and Church Street are far from quiet, the Badger beers were still excellent, even when served in polyvinyl chloride.
