Fuller's pub just off the main drag in a residential area. Built in the 1950s in a bomb-gap it looks slightly incongruous. There is a small gravel car-park and garden at the back, and there is a small smoking terrace at the far side, with chairs and tables overlooking the garden. There is a single large T-shaped bar with an industrial-looking coffee machine whose gurgling added to the general murmur of amiable conversation enabled by the muted TV screen. They hold regular quiz nights, and there is a good local feel. Four ales on draft, all from Fullers. I had a pint of Red Fox, which was in very good condition. One of the better pubs in this area, I would be happy to return.

This is a Fullers’ pub that I found to be very subdued and feeling more like an eating establishment than a pub. I will give it the benefit of doubt though as the governor was extremely friendly and I did visit at lunchtime whilst people were tucking into the Thai menu. One of the hand pumps was unused during my visit, but Pride, Seafarer and ESB were available alongside a standard draught selection. Being Fullers the Guinness was very pricey, but I enjoyed my pint whilst flicking through one of the newspapers that were lying on the bar. There is a plasma screen up on the wall, but there is no Sky Sports and the Governor informed me that this is not a sports pub. This seems like the well heeled part of this area and this pub sits well in it. Maybe I will return again on a hot summer’s day so that I can take advantage of the large beer garden at the rear.
