There are records of there being an Inn on this location since the mid 18th Century when Bury Street was a small rural village. The current large Edwardian building was erected in 1925 and was originally a three bar traditional public, saloon and small snug bar set up. And it remained this way all the way up to a few years ago when it was taken over by Ember Inns and knocked into one large internal space. In saying that for me it’s one of the better Ember Inn’s makeovers, in that it’s large enough to have several distinct different areas , mostly with table set up but then others with the ubiquitous comfy sofa’s these places have. Although it lost 50% of the outside garden for car parking space during the makeover , there is still enough of a garden space for pleasant enough outside drinking. The food menu is the usual Ember Inns fair and the couple of times I’ve eaten here its been perfectly OK. Usually three hand pumps on the go which as well as London Pride or Courage Best include two guests from the rotating Ember Inns seasonal lists, and again the beers are generally OK. So in my experience, whilst the Stag and Hounds is not a brilliant pub, it remains as a solid public house providing a good service to the deserving clientele of Bush Hill Park and Edmonton..
