The Mother Red Cap, Archway, N19

A quite historic pub this, and as resolutely Irish as they come. The interior is much as described with some modernish wood panelling and floor and bar with a slightly raised area to the front corner. However, there's some fantastic polychromatic Victorian tiling and mirrors. Otherwise it's a bit tatty. There's a pool table to the rear and a few TVs showing the horse racing. As you'd expect in a pub catering for Celtic customers, there's no ale and the Irish landlady was accommodating enough but this place held few surprises and I don't envisage a return visit.

The Mother Red cap is a corner pub that is situated at the top end of Holloway Road and close to Archway tube station. Once inside there is a U shaped room which is bare boarded,there is bench seating to the front with small stools,plus a drinking shelf on the left side which had chairs to sit on. The TVs were showing rugby and there was a pool table to the rear left. There were no real ales on the bar,i had a drink of Worthington Cream Flow,which was a poor drink. Not a pub to go out of your way to do,but i was on a crawl and trying to do all pubs on Holloway Road. It seemed friendly enough to me. Pub visited 25/2/2017

Big old Irish boozer with Sky sports ,pool and big keg fonts selling the same lagers as the rest of the local pubs.

I didn't spot any real ale, but there was plenty of lager and Guinness – This is Archway after all! The sign on the wall outside the pub says that this place has ‘the friendliest welcome on Holloway Road'. I know that this is hardly a massive feat, but I thought I would test this out and I have to admit that the landlady was very friendly. There is a pool table around one side of the pub and 2 well placed plasma screens which were showing Sky Sports. The major let down I found with this pub were the locals who were not very accommodating and loitering in the wrong century. I ended up leaving just before the band started. I'm still to find a decent boozer in Archway – The search continues.
