The Globe in Morning Lane, E9

This pub markets itself as the "last proper pub in Hackney". This would only seem to be true if your definition of 'proper pub' is a local's town bar straight out of the 1980's. The one rectangular room in the tedious 1980's building has a bar down one side, as the previous reviewer noted decorated with various out of date signs, with a fairly basic kitchen area at the back. At the front is a pool table with dart board behind, but certainly not usable simultaneously! Handpumped ales are still Doom Bar and Brakspear's Bitter, with the latter being barely drinkable. I have been to many good local pubs worth visiting: this is not one of them.

A single roomed pub that to me seemed stuck somewhere in the 70's,one of the signs across the top of the bar proclaimed the best ales in Hackney could be found here, naming London Pride,Whitbread Best and Boddingtons,none of these were in evidence of course but it didn't improve,Doombar and Brakespeare Bitter were on offer on the two handpumps and the latter was predictably ordinary.The single square room had plenty of seating scattered throughout and the raised area to the rear I assume doubles up as a stage.Plenty of keg taps dispensing a variety of run of the mill products accompanied the duo of handpumps, at the far end of the bar was an old fashioned food servery, there is a pool table and dartboard here for entertainment.A good mix of locals were in on Saturday lunch time and this pub serves that purpose perfectly,not a bad place but given the available beer I'm not likely to return in the near future.

The Globe is situated in the middle of Hackney. The pub looks quite nice from the outside and was probably built to serve the estate which is behind it. Once inside there is a single oblong shaped room with the bar on the right side,the room is carpeted and had comfy bench seating and normal tables and chairs,there is also a raised area to the rear which had normal tables and chairs,there is also a pool table in the room. There were two real ales on the bar,i had a drink of Youngs Bitter which was a decent enough drink,the other beer was Wadworth 6X. I thought this was a comfortable and pleasant pub to have a drink in. Pub visited 4/10/2014

Traditional,what I would call an old style pub.Loads of stuff on the walls inc some nice boxing pictures.Two cask beers on.The rarely seen Wadsworth -6x and Wadsworth -Ipenema a lovely beer.Its keg heaven if you want a lager.Fosters-Bud-Heineken-Stella -Kronenbourg-Carling all on tap.Nice little pub.
