Just Doom Bar on in here (£1.65 a half, and in decidedly average condition), with a second handpump seemingly unused. Food seems to be available pretty much all the time, with main courses in the £9 - £11 range. Some pub grub favourites are on offer, such as the very traditional steak & kidney pie, at £8.95. I guess that’s the going rate for a London suburban pub. This is a very large pub. As you enter into the main bar there is a room to the right with all tables laid for diners; on the left there’s a raised ballustraded area with half a dozen sofas; and at the back there’s another large room containing a pool table. There are one or two tall tables/tall stools around the place, but the majority of furnishings are normal tables and chairs. The floor has those wood surrounded square tiled patterns that I seem to find it difficult to describe. This one is OK as pubs go without being anything special. But with the dearth of pubs down Mitcham Lane it’s a good job that this one’s still here. A better ale selection would be a big plus, especially as my Doom Bar wasn’t top notch.
