It was obvious on my approach at 17:00 on Wednesday that the upstairs bar was closed and the brown sauce and ketchup bottles on the tables along with the signs outside advertising breakfast from 7:30 until 11am on Mondays to Fridays led me to believe that this area was just used as a café. However, the downstairs bar is certainly used for drinking and a cabaret was advertised for the evening of my visit. I found the staff to be very friendly and the Guinness was spot on and topped up when not really short and I hadn’t asked. Two hand pumps were unused, but Adnams Spiced Winter, Spitfire and Youngs Gold were available alongside a standard draught selection. A couple of plasma screens are in situ and these were showing muted BBC rolling news whilst some American folk music was playing in the background. Private hire is available, whether this is the top bar, basement or both I’m not sure. This is not really a place I would actively seek out again.
