Fabulous modernised pub, a very upmarket feel to it and you prepare yourself to get well and truly stung as you peruse the ales......and then you're charged £2.60. In Fulham. For a very nice pint of Dark Star 'Over the Moon'. Then you recline in one of those handsome green armchairs and observe the food menu, which lists the beers that would go best with it. A very nice touch. Put simply, this place has lager and ale of the highest quality. Yes, its in a posh area - get over it! It left a great impression on me and I'll definitely re-visit, hopefully many times.

This pub's (or rather some of its clientele's) reputation may be enough to put some people off, so I was slightly apprehensive when making my long-overdue first visit. Although very busy, the pleasant late summer afternoon sun meant that most of the customers were outside in and around the large patio beer garden in front of the pub. A bit quieter inside, but the staff behind the U-shaped bar were working very efficiently. An excellent selection of real ales - a couple of pumps were double-clipped so I think 10 in total - and other beers, the prices were not as high as I was expecting for an upmarket pub in South West London (e.g. Ascot Posh Pooch at £3.25) and the quality first rate. Overall, I found it an easy place to like and hard to fault.

I share the views of Clive and Maldenman below, in that the clientele of this pub are of the young, well-heeled variety. Indeed, when I and my two companions arrived yesterday evening I suspect that the average age went up a notch or two. The pub itself is one of those impressive Victorian edifices, this one dominating one corner of Parsons Green. There’s not much left inside to denote its Victorian heritage, having been largely stripped out, but some original etched and cut glass remains in the doors and side panels of the vestibule; there’s a large and impressive marble fireplace on the right, and the Lincrusta style ceiling looks original. There were half a dozen or so real ales on offer, with none of the usual suspects as I recall, that I guess change regularly. The three different ales I had were in superb nick. The range of rarely seen international lagers on offer was also extensive. I saw someone tucking into sausage and mash, so food is obviously available, but I didn’t look at the menu because on this occasion I was only there for the beer. It would be crass to focus on the prevalence of “easy on the eye” young ladies in evidence, so obviously I won’t do so. I rather like this pub, but I have to say that one downside is the fact that being bare-boarded (which these sort of places seem obliged to be), coupled with the traditional Victorian high ceilings, it gets very noisy when groups of people start having to shout at each other to make themselves heard. But the ale selection and quality is such that I will definitely return.
