Golden Eagle, Marylebone, W1

Very dated small bar, normal pub fittings - red padded benches, round wood tables, red patterned carpet. Some nice stained glass but feels like it needs updating and it is very expensive. The four real ales are kept well, but not enough to save the pub.

Small but nicely formed backstreet boozer off the Marylebone Road. J-shape interior with simple, traditional décor - pillar box red quarter length wood panelling and pastel yellow walls, carpeted with red fabric banquettes. Square leaded windows with green and yellow stained trim. Attractive etched glass bar back replete with a golden eagle peering down. Noted that the place was very clean. Live music advertised and apparently there is live piano playing three times a week in the evenings. A friendly, be-tied guv'nor serving four ales - Fullers Pride and Summer Ale, Old Hooky and Tribute. My half of Summer Ale was fair enough though the pitted glass was only fit for the skip – odd, seeing how meticulously well-done the rest of the place was. Unusually, and gratifyingly, a price list is prominently displayed to the left of the bar. A good unpretentious (that word again!) bolt-hole and worth popping in if you fancy a bit of traditional pub fayre.

Traditional corner London boozer with no nonsense old school guvnor, carpetted throughout, wood tables, cushioned wall banquettes & stools with heavy cast iron bases, attractive lead light windows, highlighted with some stained glass work. Pride, Brakspears, & Tribute in very good nick. I always think that well tended hanging baskets indicate a good attitude of care for the pub, usually reflected in the quality of the ales – a theory borne out again here. Simple, down to earth, we all liked it. Nice, also, to see some independent shops still trading nearby along Marylebone La.

Quite a good little traditional boozer, tucked away just off Marylebone High Street. The corner position lets lots of light in through the large windows to illuminate a predominantly red painted interior with lots of original feature. A decent pint of Pride was available on our visit early on New Years Eve, much to our delight after trying to buy beer in a couple of other pubs, only to find that they had sold out. This pub aparently has a good old London sing song on a Friday night with music provided by a pianist on the pub upright. Good for the simple fact that it had beer in a very beer deprived part of town.
