The Cavendish, Marylebone, W1

Hitherto this was the Duke of York, but is now branded as a tapas restaurant called The Fat of the Land. The main restaurant seems to be upstairs, but obviously I had no reason to go up there. The ground floor bar is not really much like a pub, and although there were tables here laid for diners there were also two or three black painted benches and tables for those just wanting a drink, plus a few stools at the bar. The slate topped bar counter bore some of the usual gastro embellishments, such as a basket of lemons, and a coffee machine. The bistro effect is complemented by the (presumably fake?) hocks of ham and strings of onions hanging down in front of the windows. I was drawn in by the sight of a single beer pump. So, a swift half of Pedigree for £1.85 a half was not too expensive. This is not the sort of place I would usually frequent, but the Pedigree was OK.
