The Two Brewers, Windsor

A small pub with two rooms labled this and that but no real distinction between them, both were packed on a Sunday Afternoon.Still very much as Quinno describes in June 2011.The only critisism I could level at this pub is the rather pedestrian beer range, on my visit Doom Bar, Charles Wells Poppy and St Austell Tribute, that said the Tribute was in excellent condition and the fact the pub was rammed points to the fact I'm a little more fussy than some. It gets an 8/10 for me, with more interesting beer It could be a rare 10, a cracking pub and demands a return visit.

Split into 2 areas(this and that). Quite a dark,quirky old style interior. 3 real ales and food served.

This is a small two roomed pub adjacent to the gates to Windsor Great Park. The rooms are called "This Bar" and "That Bar" with the former having the three handpumps. Beers were Pride, Tribute and Doom Bar, an extensive wine list is displayed on a chalkboard above the bar. Respectfully gloomy inside, the pub has boarded floors and regular seating, it is a traditional spot but with the walls covered in all manner of seemingly random paraphernalia, framed photos, old gig flyers, tin advertisements, film posters, scores of matchbook covers, a shelf full of wine bottles, "This Bar" also has a large bookcase on part of a side wall. Amongst the various items on display I especially liked the photo of Concorde flying low over Windsor Castle as well, obviously, as the sign stating "No kids, no buggies, dogs ok". It doesn't feel like the sort of pub that panders to the tourists and the clientele in at the time reinforced this view, it feels like a solid local. I liked it, a lot, despite the pedestrian beer range, it would be worth a high score indeed if another pump perhaps contained a more unusual ale. A few pavement benches provide outdoor seating to the front.

"JB" and "Quinno" have summed this pub up quite nicely (see below). The food in The 2 Brewers is consistently good, and they have a fine wine selection. Mind your head in the low doorways! A quaint little pub, with oodles of history attached, and totally different to your usual high street bar. Worth visiting, if you don't mind a mild uphill walk from Windsor town centre. Definitely one to remember, on a Windsor-crawl, or when going on a hike in Windsor Great Park (...the gates are next door!) 7/10 TJ
