Ypres Bar, Sittingbourne

Old-fashioned High Street pub with simple furniture and plain decoration in the 'U'-shaped bar. Function room (with a pool table) to the rear. Just Courage Best (£3.40) from one of the four handpumps when I ordered, but another real ale was being put on. A bit of a disappoint, really.

This was the final pub I visited at the end of a relatively uneventful Monday evening crawl down Sittingbourne High Street. There was one other customer sitting at the bar and thankfully there was some cheerful music radiating from the jukebox. The interior is U shaped and the left hand side of the pub is marked as the restaurant area during lunchtime periods. I spotted a couple of plasma screens that were showing horse racing and Sky Sports is shown here. The bar is stocked with standard draught and one of the two hand pumps was unused leaving Courage Best as the lone ale option. The service was friendly enough, but when Homeward bound started playing I decided it was time to leave. I imagine that there could be a good atmosphere in here when it is a bit busier, but I’ll certainly not be returning on a Monday evening again. Maybe if I ever find myself in the area on a weekend I’ll pop back in for another look.
