The Boat House, Rochester

Large riverside pub with target markets over the years, but now much more mainstream than it's been for quite a while. The front bar and side dining area (overlooking the Medway) are now looking quite smart, and its day will surely come when the nearby brownfield plots eventually begin to be redeveloped? However, in the meantime, the keg-only beer selection is very dull, and my limited enthusiasm only extended to a Maltsmiths IPA (£2.60, half).

A very camp night club/bar whose clientele is mainly - but not exclusively - from Rochester's gay community. It's brightly decorated, floorboarded and knocked through into a single large room, with a "VIP" area roped off. There is a central bar area with a pool table, gaming machines, tvs (televisons, that is) and wall-to-wall lesbians. They also do food, and there is a large outside garden and seating are. Live music and other events are advertised. No real ale, and it's not really my scene, so although I have no real complaint about the pub, I won't be in a hurry to come back.
