The Heron, Herne Bay

I only visited this pub as I had time to kill before getting a train back to London. As noted below it's a fairly modern Shep's pub right next to the Railway Station. It's precisely described below and still has the two pool tables and darts in the carpeted public bar while the saloon had a busy raised area with several older folk dining. As before both bars had two hand pumps with just Master Brew (£3.30) on offer. This was in good condition but was poor value compared to the micropubs and Spoons visited earlier. I suspected I wouldn't be impressed by this pub before I even went in but will be generous and give it a five.

1960s Shepherd Neame estate pub, also benefitting from its proximity to the railway station. Retains its original layout, with a large lounge (partly set aside for dining) and an equally large public bar with two pool tables. Small front beer garden with picnic benches and a children's play area. Just Master Brew available from a pair of handpumps in each bar; but, apart from the limited beer choice, it is worth noting that this place appears popular and well run.
