Kings Head, Alton

This is certainly a busy traditional pub early evening. When we arrived about 6pm both bars were crowded. However some of the locals were very accommodating and moved up to let our group use a table. Good service from behind the bar and the Triiple F brewery ale was in very good condition along wit hte Courage Best. The third handpump wasnt in use on our visit. Certainly worthy of a return visit next time we are in Alton.

Two room format with individual entrances from the street but you can link through via the toilet corridor beyond the end of the bar. The pub has a real retro feel reminding me of many from the late 70's/early 80's. The room to the left viewed from the street actually has two dartboards, and it looks like darts is big here as a case was literally heaving with trophies and shields. This room also contains a juke box and fruit machine, however had no customers at the time of my visit. The other room seems to be where the regulars congregate, a handful were perched on stools around the bar chatting with the landlady. Carpeted in here, rectangular tables in fours, a few pub mirrors, local photos and fake black timbers being the general decor. To the rear there are a few wooden bench tables outside down a few steps. Window stickers indicate this to be a GBG regular, beers on were Courage Best plus guests Otter Ale and Hammerpot White Wing. Note two pumps in the right hand bar with the other being in the darts room, but the beers were listed on chalkboards both outside the pub and over the bar.
