The Nottingham Arms, Tewkesbury

Good town pub with reasonable selection of beers - Don't be put off by drinkers at the front as there is a nicer area behind.

Externally, the pub has an upper storey in timber and white render in Tudor style, the lower storey is a traditional pub frontage. The pub has age to it, but I don't think it is Tudor. It may actually be much older. Once inside, the pub extends back and is deceptively larger than the frontage suggests. A fireplace with a double front separates a traditional bar area from a more 'comfortable' lounge area at the rear. It is is decorated with local ephemera and has a 'Battle of Tewkesbury 1471' theme. The barmaid was friendly and helpful and it was easy to fall into conversation with the other customers. Apart from the usual beers were four real ales - Sharpe's Doom Bar, Wickwar Old Bob, Moorhouse's Black Cat and St Austell Tribute. I have had the Old Bob in here on a previous visit and it was very nice. This time I sank two pints of Black Cat as I favour dark beers. It was delicious, smooth and creamy. I have eaten here in the past and enjoyed the food, but we arrived here today after food service had stopped. All in all, I enjoyed my time here as I have done on my previous visits. The Nottingham is a must do on any visit to Tewkesbury.
