The Cricketers, Saffron Walden

More a fish restaurant than a pub, the Cricketers is owned and run by the parents of TV Chef Jamie Oliver. So they don't have to try hard to get the punters in; in my opinion they don't. Its what you would expect a themed 'English Pub' to be, all exposed beams, horse brasses, agricultural implements etc, but it lacks something. Once we had ordered our drinks we looked for somewhere to sit, but all the seating is set out for diners, not drinkers. 3 real ales were available, Netheravon Swift, Admans Broadside and a Netheravon offering maned Jamie's Tipple.(yawn). The Swift was ok, but expensive, Not worth travelling to rural Essex for; we drove past plenty of other proper Contry pubs on the way. Below average.

Awful overated place. Sky high prices for not very good food. Wonderful location and typical old English pub look. Not a pub at all but a very expensive eating place.
