Chapelhay Tavern, Chapelhay, Weymouth

The Chapelhay Tavern is situated up the steep Chapelhay steps over Weymouth bridge but perhaps a more less energetic approach is from the Brewers Quay area. This is a 2 bar pub with an interesting collection of nautical miscellanea and other oddments covering the walls.Although this is not a large pub there is a long slender room on the left side known as "skittle alley"with the pub being a member of the Weymouth and Portland Skittle league. There were 3 cask beers on the go on my early evening visit with the Ringwood 49er on top form.At the rear of the building is a smart floral compact beer garden where I think on occasions in summer live music is performed. Liked this one which had a friendly landlord,well conditioned cask beer and not overrun by tourists. Definitely worth seeking out

The Chaplehay Tavern is a locals pub that is above and close to the harbour area. This pub was an Eldridge Pope tied house when i went in it there was a couple of rooms,i had a drink of Popes traditional bitter which was alright but nothing special. Photo taken 23 August 2001.
