Steve of N21 left this review about The Pheasant
The large suburban area to the north of Bedford is a bit of a wasteland for pubs and we only chose the Pheasant for a pint primarily on the grounds that it was on a roundabout on one of the main thoroughfares, clearly did food and had a large car park. As well as the large carpark it has a large garden & children’s play area and is fairly spacious inside.
On entering for those with Hertfordshire connections it reminded me very much of a typical McMullen’s road side house from the 80’s before they started modernising their stock, with a large drinking area set to tables on the left and a large dining area to the right with food menus that had clearly been around for a while and seen a lot of thumbing. It was offering a fairly standard pub grub menu but nothing wrong with that, and being a Charles Wells house three beers in the shape of Eagle IPA, Bombardier and Directors were available.
The Eagle IPA I had with my Steak and Kidney Pie was very passable and all in all it was largely an inoffensive but hardly exciting visit.
