The Volunteer Inn, Lyme Regis

I was wondering where all of the locals drank in Lyme Regis and soon found them in this pub which stands on a fairly steep hill. There is a lounge to the left of an entrance corridor and a public bar to the right. The bar has bare boards and exposed brick walls. Some old music was playing. Through the gap in the bar, I could see that the lounge had magnolia painted walls and a large fireplace. Toilets are outdoors to the rear of the bar (well the gents were, at least).

Branscombe Volly (a rebadged Summa This) & Fuller's London Pride are the 2 regular cask ales. Guests for my visit were Abbey Bath Bellringer & Cerne Abbas Tiger Tom Ruby Mild. Sharp's Atlantic was available on keg. Ciders were Inch's & Thatcher's Gold.

I found this pub to much more down-to-earth than others in the town, it was cheaper and the beer selection was better than most. A quite enjoyable atmosphere too. For me, this is the pick of the town's pubs.
