A Green King pub in one of Medway's more affluent areas, knocked through to form a single large bar mostly for diners. It was built in the 1950s as part of the move of the population out of Brompton, the original licences belonging to two pubs called The Nelson and The Steam Engine (hence the odd name). There is a large car park. There is a mix of carpets and bare boards, and the decor is unremarkable. Staff were uninspiring, and what little character this pub had 30 years ago when I first visited has now vanished. Food was reasonably priced, though portions were a bit meagre and it was nothing to get excited about. Two ales on, I had Olde Trip, which not in the best condition. OK for a quick lunch if in the area.
