A busy high street pub in a Victorian corner building, currently operated by Greene King as one of their Meet and Eat pubs. There is a small car park at the back which is shared with the neighbouring tenement and is littered with various detritus. There is a strong local character here, encouraged by the different zones within the single large bar – a pool area, darts area, comfortable seating zone and a raised dining area with a separate servery for food. There is a huge screen at one end and a TV at the other, both showing live sports matches. There are also gaming machines and WiFi. The food is the standard GK microwave range, but the staff are willing to zap it for you on call. Three ales on, I had a pint of the guest beer, Masham’s My Generation, which was much too cold and almost indistinguishable from the Speckled Hen which followed it down. It’s a decent local, but it’s not somewhere I’d seek out.

Fairly busy with people watching the rugby international when I visited.
The pub appeared to be quite well kept, one long bar serving an open fairly rectangular area.
Beers on offer were the ones that seemed to be standard in all of the Winton pubs I visited that day. My pint was in fairly good condition so all in all, a pub I would return to if ever in this area again.
