Recently opened on what was for a short time some sort of oriental dumpling restaurant, and before that the Aluna bar, this is as much a restaurant as it is a pub, but there are a range of drinks on tap and you are certainly welcome to just pop in for a pint.

Internally it’s split in to two different areas, the left hand part perhaps being more for drinking with the bar counter and some long communal tables with bench seating, whilst the right hand half had smaller tables. Although I approached the bar counter to order, the maître d' then came up to me and took my order, relayed it to the bar tender and then showed me to a table where my drinks were subsequently delivered. I was expecting to get slapped with a service charge for this, but fortunately did not. Décor wise it’s quite rustic with plenty of plain wood cladding around, some areas of exposed brickwork and some sort of thatched roof above the bar counter. The ceiling was presumably supposed to resemble a night sky, consisting of black painted panels with pinpricks of light. A large mural of a lion’s head directly opposite the entrance added a splash of colour, and there were a couple of dart boards off to the left.

Predicably enough there were no real ales on tap, with Hawkstone IPA on keg being the only beer offering. The solitary cider meanwhile was Outcider which I’ve only seen in Edinburgh previously. Overall, the staff were quite friendly, it’s probably ok as a restaurant and I may return to check out the food, but as a pub it really falls rather short.
