A former estate agents, though closed for a few years, and before that a furniture store called Mounts, which occupied the whole of this block. It has been nicely converted to a bar - the floor was in such good condition that it has been retained, and looks gorgeous - and opened a few days before Christmas 2025. Opening night included a two hour power failure, but they have recovered well and it is now attracting local people to the only available cask beer in Royston. The bar counter is on a slightly higher level, and has three hand pumps selling beers from Yorkshire breweries: Zapato, Kirkstall and Ossett. I went for Three Swords, which I know well, and Lantern Shards, a 4.5% bitter from Zapato. The latter proved to be a tricky pour, but it was in good condition and tasted fine, and I rated both around NBSS 3.5 to 4. The people running this place are new to the trade, but I hope they will overcome their inauspicious start and make a go of it.
