Update as at Jul 2015:
What a turn-around. Over the last year the pub has been re-vitalised as a freehouse and is now the prime choice of pub in Blandford. As at today there are 5 real ales and a selection of 30-40 ciders available. I had pints of Eight Arch Bowstring, Palmers Best Bitter and Vibrant Forest Flying Saucer, all in perfect condition. CAMRA discount is available, good, cheap pub grub is on offer and the welcome is both genuine and wholesome. It no longer has a GBG entry, but it should. Now a must for a town crawl and a good place to spend the evening.
(Original entry from 17 Feb 2011: A Victorian pub which in its day was the hotel of choice for rail travellers, but is now a back street pub (hall and Woodhose tied) living on former glory. The fabric of the building is dilapidated, while the majority of the clientele are young and loud. TV screens and a pool table provide the entertainment in the single U-shaped bar. Of interest is the sign outside which refers to "Puffing Billy 1813", the famous steam engine, but teh connection with the pub is unclear. There was an overpowering smell of cooking present, but I didn't try the food. As a GBG pub, the Railway was hugely disappointing - 6 pumps on the bar, but only one ale on, Ringwood Best, which tasted wrong somehow. Cider was also on but I didn't try it. Probably worth trying again if they can sort out their beer, and I would include on a crawl, but there are better pubs in every respect in Blandford.)
