Blackthorn _ left this review about The Settle Inn

A recent opening on the High Street in what was previously an estate agent, this is Portishead’s first micropub and was full to capacity on our recent late afternoon visit, with all tables, both inside and out, taken.

Internally they’ve done a good job of the conversion and it now has something of a rustic look perhaps, with wood strip on the floor and the walls predominantly painted in either burnt orange or khaki green, but there were also some sections with rough wooden cladding. A couple of pictures were dotted around the walls, but little else of any note, whilst the seating was a mixture of old church pews plus both high and low stools. A courtyard garden at the rear was something of a sun trap, and at least doubled the pub’s seating capacity. It describes itself as a micropub and snackery, so I had expected something in the way of a basic food offering such as scotch eggs perhaps, but it transpired that it was simply a slightly more upmarket selection of the usual crisps, olives and nuts that you find in any pub, and these were arranged on some shelving opposite the bar counter for you to peruse. That said, I did also notice some plates and cutlery, so perhaps there is more on offer at certain times.

Beer choice was listed on a chalkboard next to the bar, and all dispensed from barrels racked up on stillage behind it. On this occasion the choice was Hardings Amber, Cheddar Ales Bitter Bully and Twisted Oak Spun Gold, whilst the solitary cider was Rich’s Golden Harvest. All in all I was quite impressed with this, it’s a lot less basic than many micropubs, there was a buzzy atmosphere and I’d certainly pop in again.
