Located on the upper row in one of the oldest buildings still standing in Chester, Bishop Lloyd’s palace, its a small square room with the counter at the rear. Dark inside, not much natural light but very dark painted/papered walls don’t help. Perhaps over furnished with too many chairs where a banquette would be better. A twin T-Bar with Estrella Damm and 1664, the single handpull serves a farm cider called Rosies not to be confused with the old one, and a low T-Bar has four Chesters beers who I believe run the bar. Not to be confused with the old Manchester brewery of that name which merged with Threlfalls and closed by Whitbread years ago. The Chesters beers have low carbonation levels and are very pleasant. Friendly chatty barmaid / manageress. There is outside seating on the row.

Bishop Lloyd's was a bit of a random choice for our crawl of Chester. It would have been one of the first couple of pubs I would have dropped if we had been struggling for time, but with the Cavern of the Curious Gnome closed for a refurbishment, this was an interesting place to visit.
The bar can be found on the upper floor of an old building on Watergate Row. It features a single room with a little further seating in the outdoor passageway.
The bar has a single handpull dispensing Rosie's Triple D cider, whilst keg beers are all from Chester's Beers - Deva IPA, Newgate Blonde, Northgate Bitter & Watergate Porter.
I should really have gone for the porter, but succumbed to a cider. It was certainly nice to have a drink in one of Chester's historic buildings and there was a bustling atmosphere here with good views of shoppers and other pedestrians in the street below.
I wouldn't rule out a return visit.
