I popped into the Cinque Ports Club last night (Saturday) to find a surprisingly large club with lots of seating areas, pool, darts, televisions for satellite sports and a large function room at the rear for regular Saturday night entertainment. Unfortunately, this is a club with a £40 per year membership fee. The manageress was adamant that I would have to pay the membership and a taster pint was out of the question. Thankfully one of the senior members sat at the bar offered to sign me in for a pint and a tour, he was exceptionally friendly. She had issue with this, but he basically told her to get back in her box. Why on earth would you treat a prospective member like that? I liked the vibe from the members, and it’s ideally located 25 minutes away by bus so I would consider joining, but I’m not sure I want to be spending my hard earned in a place with curt staff. Not rated because this is a club.
