Blackthorn _ left this review about The Pickled Parrot

A recent opening on the ever popular Church Road, this is a new micropub located on the site of a former opticians and is a sister pub to the Wooden Walls in Staple Hill. Despite being there soon after opening on a mid-week afternoon, a few other punters came and went whilst we were there.

Internally it’s quite compact, and consists of a single L-shaped room with the bar counter taking up quite a considerable percentage of the available floor space. Décor wise it’s fairly spartan, with the walls being primarily whitewashed plasterwork, although there was a contrasting pale green colour on the rear wall. The ceiling was a mixture of more whitewash and suspended polystyrene tiles, whilst the flooring was a decent looking wood strip. The bar counter was clad with rough wooden planks, and a table at the rear had been fashioned from sanded timber which was an ideal fit for the small place. Seating meanwhile was a mixture of padded bench seating along the sides, as well as plenty of old kegs with cushions fitted on top. There was some unusual artwork on the walls which appeared to be for sale.

Beers on tap were Cheddar Ales Totty Pot and Wild Craft Wild Bill Hiccup, although the friendly landlady informed us that here was also a Pale Ale of some description which she had not got around to chalking up on the board. Keg options meanwhile were Moor Distortion and Bristol Beer Factory’s Pinnacle, whilst the solitary cider was Sheppy’s Classic Medium. All in all, a pretty decent new opening, and worth checking out if you’re in the area.
