Bee Orchid is a single roomed bar at the bottom of a block of flats next to the River Orwell where it’s overlooked by the Trafford Road Swing Bridge. The central J-shaped serving counter matches the contours of the floor to ceiling exterior walls, around which a mix of standard and high tables run. Premium keg is available from the friendly bar staff, however the two hand pumps are unused. During a recent Friday afternoon visit there were a handful of people present while a singer set up to the left of the entrance. I left before he started, but there was some background music playing during my stay. Out the front is some patio seating with views over the water. I had a few pints of Guinness and would have stayed longer if I didn’t have to be somewhere else.
