A recently opened pub utilising the upstairs floor above the almost as recently opened Coyote Ugly, I use the term pub loosely since, as it’s name suggests, it’s one of a number of cricket themed bars around the country, which have joined the nearby golf and darts themed establishments. Whilst you certainly can pop in just for a pint, or even a meal come to that, whether or not anyone would choose to is another matter entirely.
It's not a particularly big venue and much of the available floor space is taken up by the three cricket lanes. Décor wise it’s fairly unremarkable with dark wood strip on the floor and a black painted ceiling with visible cable trays and so on, although there were also a number of cricket bats hanging from the ceiling above the bar counter. Seating is mostly long high tables with high chairs or padded stools, whilst the paintwork included dark green and blue as well as purple lighting in places. Cricket is the main attraction though, and this worked reasonably well I suppose, with a projected image of a bowler running towards you before the ball appears. Scoring seemed a bit hit and miss though, even if you hit the ball it then has to hit the screen or one of the targets at the side to register. Most of mine hit the ceiling and counted for nothing. Food options included pizza, burgers, nacho’s and chicken nuggets.
Predictably there were no real ales on tap, although they did have Salt Jute IPA and their own Sixes Pale Ale on keg. The solitary cider meanwhile was Thatcher’s Juicy Apple which I’ve not come across on tap before. Overall, this was quite fun I suppose if there’s a group of you and you want to have a go at batting a ball, but otherwise there are much more pub-like options nearby.
