A brand new cafe bar in Bridport High Street, slightly unconventional, run by former actress and model Nicole Gibson, who previously ran the Lord Nelson, opposite. It also has some features of a micro, but they are adamant it’s a cafe. The premises was previously a night club called Neon, and before that an Indian takeaway and restaurant, whose influence persists in the décor. The landlady made a point of chatting to all customers, while the barman was also happy to engage, a friendly and helpful pair. Two casks on the bar were gravity-dispensing Otter Bitter and Otter Ale, both recently tapped and in excellent condition. Also available were Asahi, Guinness, Peroni, Meantime IPA, Thatcher’s Gold and Thatcher’s Haze, plus a selection of hot and soft drinks. No food was available, but they are happy to let you bring in a takeaway, a touch of historical irony lost on them, I think. There is a small garden at the back which made for a pleasant, sheltered al fresco experience. Worth a visit if in town.
