Housed in an old mill complex, it’s at the far end of a block on the ground floor and has a pointed square, almost pentagonal shape. The counter lies across the middle of the back wall, home to four pulls and on the back 10 craft taps, no hints of what's on you’ve just gotta look at the clips or roundels. The walls are exposed bricks exhibiting the remains of white wash, there are two iron columns and an old concrete floor. Mostly furnished in low tables and chairs, our table was an old work bench, the others are more conventional. The service was glacial. Not much decor, there’s a piano, a mural, a wheel and a grandfather clock. There’s a mural of a hoppy mule on one wall above a couple of brewing vessels, not sure if they’re in use, I didn’t spot the on-site brewery.

This is the fifth member of the Howarth empire. Although it officially opened last Friday, we were invited to the soft opening night the previous Saturday. It was also Mike & Sarah's daugthers engagement party. Very nicely done inside, although it was so packed that it was difficult to see everything. A couple of local cask ales available, these will be supplemented by their own brews by the end of September. An interesting addition to the Rochdale beer scene. This and Defiance Gin next door will no doubt spark off each other to create a destination on Thursday - Saturday.
