Located in a rather anonymous back street behind Asda, this isn’t somewhere you’re likely to stumble across by accident, and even if you did you may perhaps not venture in, looking as it does very much like an industrial shed rather than your traditional pub, with only very minimal signage on the exterior to indicate it’s name.
Internally it’s also suitable industrial as one might expect, and consists of two rooms, a small bar area to the right and an open plan seating area to the left. There is also more seating on picnic benches outside. The bar area is really quite tiny with no seating, and just serves as somewhere to wait whilst you’re being served. Décor wise it’s very plain, with bare whitewashed walls and concrete screed on the floor. That said, there are a number of items of interest around, including the top of an old mash tun, old black and white photographs of the locale, a collection of Toby jugs and a pile of board games. The larger room to the left is presumably part of the brewery, although there was little in the way of any brewing equipment, with just a stack of barrels up against one wall indicating that this is not just a pub. There were plenty of benches to sit at, and more bits and pieces dotted around including some planters, model aeroplane parts, a model battleship and more Toby jugs and games. They certainly seem to have made a bit more of an effort in this regard than most brewery taps. There was also a large projection screen showing monster truck racing, but the volume was off so this was not too intrusive.
Beers on tap were all their own as might be expected, and consisted of En Route, Murica, Bemmie Bedmo, Zoinks, All’s Good and Isamburt’s Brun Ale. The solitary cider meanwhile was served straight from a barrel racked up on the end of the bar and was labelled up as Fizzy Cider. Further enquiries elicited that it was made by Tricky which is a new one on me, but it went down well enough. I always find brewery taps tricky to mark as they’re distinctly lacking in the sort of cosy ambience I would normally look for in a pub, but this seemed better than many. As is usually the case with brewery taps, opening hours are very restricted, so do check before making a special journey.
