Primarily a live music venue, the Lewes Con Club opens late in the afternoon throughout the week and there is a small charge to attend the regular live events in the evenings. The stage and dance floor are found up the right-hand side of the building, separated from the bar area by long sliding doors. The serving counter up the left-hand wall supports standard and premium keg alongside four hand pumps, two of which were in use drawing Harvey’s Best and an offering from Longman Brewery. Out the back is a patio with furniture where the only other customer had also decided to sit. I thought the staff were very friendly and I bet there’s a great atmosphere when an event is in progress, but I’m not a huge live music fan so I’ll probably not be returning. Under 16s are not permitted at any time.

Sounds like a member’s club, but this is a great, open to all and legendary music venue on the way out of Lewes town centre. Here tonight for a Clash tribute band gig, but often here when no gig on and a nice place to sit and enjoy the space. That space is a long rectangular bar, old school carpeted, with bar on left hand side as you walk through. Tables and chairs dotted around the periphery of the space. There is an outside space at the back that is lovely, but on better evenings such as this autumnal June evening. The gig venue is to the side of the bar and is another rectangle, but with parquet flooring.

Quaffs wise there always, in my experience, Harvey’s Best and Long Man Long Blonde on hand pump. Keg choices are the Whatf IPA from Harvey’s, Moretti, Amstel, Guinness and Stowford Press. A fairly basic range for this part of the world but the cask is always very well kept.

I really enjoy this venue and with the music right up my strasse this evening thought it worth finally adding the venue to PG. would be a 7 with a more imaginative beer selection as it has a great vibe.
