Plateau is a bare board wine bar and small plate restaurant that I visited on a recent Saturday afternoon when there were a couple of people sat at the black tiled steel topped serving counter that runs up the left-hand wall and the open plan dining seating to the right was half full with ten or so people. I didn’t venture up the stairs. The friendly staff and South American music playing in the background created a decent atmosphere so I actually enjoyed my brief stay. The local Abyss Brewery were represented on the two hand pumps with Dank Marvin and Faust being available. I had trouble reading the pump clip for the DM so asked the barman what it was called, he also had no idea as we both studied the clip, so I went for the Faust that set me back a whopping £4 for a half, which is the most I’ve paid outside of London. Alas Plateau only held this miserable accolade for about half an hour because I still had one more place on my visit list... The Coal Shed.

Small wine bar that I hadn’t considered adding but in passing I noticed they had two beers from Lewes brewery Abyss on tap so already worthy of inclusion above the other venues I have dragged myself to today. The venue is a small room downstairs with the bar against the left hand wall as you walk in. Glass fronted with some pleasant stained glass panels above the large windows either side of the door. Probably enough tables for 24 seated at square or rectangular tables. Some seating on stools to the left of the door in front of the bar and some high stools at the bar. More table based seating of similar type upstairs.

The two Abyss quaffs were Super Fuzz and their Table Beer. Stuck with the former as fancied something a bit more substantial!

Have rated this place as a 5 based on its beer offering. Two decent beers from a decent brewery but not enough choice to make it anything else. Another one that is at the classy end of the average spectrum for sure on my opinion.
