This is the first new build pub in Cambridge for around 30 years, built on the car park of the original pub of the same name, which was demolished in 2014. It was a pretty dull and wet day, so my photos are not very exciting, but the pub does not help itself by having a very large canopy, or gazebo, parked in front. Once inside, I was greeted by the back of the bar tender, who deigned to turn around to serve me and then resumed whatever was demanding his attention. There were seven Milton Brewery beers on the bar, the same number as previous evening at the Haymakers in Chestertonbut no guest beer here. Also not here was the very good Justinian I'd had before, so I went for Pegasus, which was in good condition but wasn't such a tasty beer. Looking around I was struck by a display of clocks on the wall next to the bar, all stopped at eight minutes past five, or some such. I managed to gain the attention of the man behind the bar for long enough to ask what the significance of that time was. (Assassination of JFK? First bomb dropped on Hiroshima?) He told me it was the minute at which Boris Johnson had announced the closure of pubs in March 2020.
