Located just around the corner from The Kings Head, this bar is found in the Aylesbury Literary Club building, on narrow and cobbled Temple Street. The right-hand room upon entry from the street, it's third-height wood-panelled all around, with the bar nestled in the right-hand corner of the room. British Racing Green walls above the panelling and large square-panelled ceiling, with a chandelier made from wine glasses hanging down from above. A varied array of paintings adorn the walls from traditional to abstract, and faux-stained glass windows at either end of the room light what would otherwise be a rather dark space. Bare-boarded floor and a nice fireplace feature with wooden surround and large mirror above, albeit what would have been an open fire is now replaced by a modern imitation gas fire. Plenty of seating which fills the floor space. No cask ales (although there are four redundant handpulls), but two t-bars serve a selection of keg options (mainly lagers). I went for a half of Beak Curve IPA which was decent enough (hazy and cool, which would make some shudder). A fair few in (young and old) which is always a good sign, bearing in mind this is slightly off the beaten track. Sunday roasts offered and there were a few partaking. Tapas available in the week and an extensive cocktail list to boot. The more I think about it, the more I think the missus would like this place, but at least beer-wise, there's something for me.
