The Lion & The Unicorn was the first of 3 Wetherspoon's I'd not previously visited that I took in yesterday. This was the best of the 3. Being in a shopping area of Waterloo station called The Sidings, it's not the easiest to locate. But it's very close to the Brewdog if you can locate that. Prices are also a little more than a normal branch due to its railway station location. However, maybe it was because they were festival beers but the price was less than quoted in previous reviews. It was £3.69 a pint before CAMRA 50p vouchers were applied.
I was here just after 10am and most people, including a group of train drivers, were there for breakfast or teas and coffees. The manager soon appeared at the bar and apologised that I'd been kept waiting. He was a friendly young chap who offered good service and is knowledgeable about the beers.
Flooring is a mixture of tiles and carpet. There are brown painted pillars and exposed ducting. The bar has a large electronic screen above it which was listing breakfast items and their prices. Apparently, food is more popular than the drinks here and there is an open kitchen in one corner. Windows overlook the station and there is a section at one end which contains all of the games machines. Multiple TVs were switched off.
At the bar, the regular cask ales are Greene King Abbot & IPA & Sharp's Doom Bar. Guests included several beers left over from their recent beer festival and were Good Word Read The Room, Adnams Flat White, Thornbridge Grapefruit Pale, Castle Rock Navigator, Hook Norton Brewed Awakening, Stu Brew Exam Room Tears & Rye River Brogue Irish Red Ale. There were also some bag-in-the-box ciders in a fridge - Cock Eyed Pear Mania, Snail's Bank Rhubarb Cider & Weston's Rosie's Pig.
This branch had a fresh and modern feel, with friendly service and a good beer selection. I'd happily return.

Extensive cask options of Wimbledon SW19, Purple Moose Dark Side of the Moose dark bitter, Redemption Big Chief IPA, Abbot, Doom Bar, GK IPA, Oakham Green Devil, East London Brew Co Foundation best bitter, & Southwark Brewing Route Master Red. Typical JDW keg offering of Corona, Mad Squirrel Big Sea WEIPA, BD Punk IPA, Worthington Creamflow, Stella, Bud Light, San Miguel, Leffe Blonde, Budweiser, Coors, Kopparberg s&l cider, Carling, Stowford Press cider, Roadie, Carlsberg, original & dark fruits SB, Portobello Notting Helles, Guinness and Shipyard pale ale.
Belated positing of review from opening day of this smart new JDW. Lots of glass here in this venue in the Sidings already home to the v large BrewDog, with a square cut into rectangle station exterior side. Very long rectangle with bar on one end. Very industrial look. Typical Spoons set up lots of closely packed tables and fancy carpet (it will go downhill from today). Insanely busy struggled to find anywhere to sit on popping in at 4pm. Am sure will pop here from time to time when travelling out of Waterloo station!

situated underneath the platforms of the former Eurostar terminus, close to the lower level exit barriers for these platforms and in the shopping centre that hasn't quite worked this 'spoons in a huge positive if travelling via Waterloo.Modern, glass fronted on both sides with views down to the street below there are high tables close to the bar with lower level dining style tables to the periphery and in the main body of the pub in what is essentially an L shaped interior.
There is a rolling screen above the bar ,a little disconcerting but there are no other distractions and the vibe is of a smart 'spoons.
The Trio of Doom feature on both sets of handpumps while guests on my trip were London Pride,Milestone Hammerhead Stout,Mad Squirrel Shamrock dry stout and Diablo (NBSS 4) ,Twickenham The Naked Ladies and Portobello Ho Ho Ho.Good to see two stouts on offer.Ales generally around £5 so don't forget your vouchers. The food is at a small premium price compared with other outlets but not usary.
Great addition to Waterloo station,I will be using this 'spoons regularly in future.
