The Bottle Monkey is a bottle shop and bar in a former fancy dress shop. Indeed, the fancy dress shop signage is still present, which seems to confuse passers by somewhat and probably persuades some people to walk on by. However, it was on my hitlist, being in the 2023 Good Beer Guide and is handily placed opposite the Thirsty Pigeon.

It had been closed on my first day of visiting the island due to staff sickness. However, after contacting them, the owner revealed that they would be open the following day. This left me just enough time for a swift one before heading to the airport for my flight back to the mainland.

Service was from the owner's daughter who was chatty and friendly.

Beers are supposedly dispensed by KeyKeg, which is sufficient to earn a label "real ale". Although the beer I chose was certainly served on the cold side.

Despite a lengthy list of beers on Untappd, there were just 2 options on draft - Vault City Fruits of the Forest Chocolate Honeycomb Vanilla & Neon Raptor Neon Laga.

This feels like quite a unique venue, particularly for the Isle of Man. I found it quite quirky. But it's definitely worth a visit. Apparently they have a sister venue in Castletown.
