A very pleasant micropub located just a short stroll up hill from the harbour, it’s got a little more character than many such establishment which can feel rather spartan, and although presumably converted from a shop unit, it now has a proper pub feel about it.
Internally there is a single large room at the front and a smaller snug beyond. The main room has roughly sawn mismatched wooden boards on the floor and also cladding much of the walls along with some sections of exposed stonework which give it something of a rustic feel. There was a brick faced bar counter, and in a nod to it’s coastal location, the light fittings were made from ship’s rope. Seating was a mixture of fitted upholstered benches and various chairs of different styles and heights. The rear snug was a little cosier with grey paintwork on the walls, an unusual traffic light style clock as well as a beer bottle clock. Other adornments were fairly minimal but included a pot plant or two and some merchandise for sale.
Beers on tap were Timothy Taylor Landlord and Anarchy Euro Star as well as Calmer Chameleon Pale and Tonkoko Milk Stout from Brew York. The latter went down well, and whilst I certainly noticed the advertised coconut and vanilla, I didn’t think the cacao was particularly prominent. Ciders meanwhile were Slack Alice which is a new one on me. The landlord seemed friendly and overall I thought this was a pretty decent pub with it’s relaxed and chilled out ambience, although perhaps just a little background music would have helped as everyone seemed to be talking in very hushed tones.

Just as OB says below. The whole place is very dog Friendly not just the corridor. :-)) We called in here twice during our two days in Whitby and all the beers I had were in good nick. Friendly staff who recognised us the second time we called in. A great addition to the local pub scene.

Biggish greengrocers shop converted into a micro but comprising two rooms connected by a dog friendly corridor. The larger front room has low booths down one side and a few tables and chairs to the left then an L shaped brick counter beyond that. Decor here is a mix of tongue and groove, exposed brick and pallet wood, clocks seem a big item for obvious reasons. There are some interesting lighting treatments. Four hand pulls with Landlord, an excellent Brass Castle stout, with Three Brothers and Durham beers also available as well as four more interesting kegs on a T-bar. The rear room is seating only in a stone built room with banquette seating and another interesting clock, the toilets are back here as well.
