With more time to kill in Preston, I made a swift visit to this brewery taproom situated just off a main shopping street in Preston. The building has the feel of a warehouse but with a rather trendy vibe on a Saturday evening. Music was playing and there was a predominantly young crowd in, with no available seating.

Queues at the bar seemed to be a few deep when I arrived but it soon transpired that people were just blocking the bar because there was nowhere else to stand. It was still a fight to get to the bar and to reach the handpulls at the far end, you had to squeeze your way through the crowds to view the pumpclips, only then to find some more bar blockers seated on stools.

Cask ales on were Runaway/Chain House Robust Porter & Glasshouse Altitude. There were some ciders from Ascension - Sonic Titan, Map Change, Dance Commander & Mothership. Craft beers were much more prolific and featured Chain House Taxi For N.Long & The Law of Social Niceness, Chain House/Plau Seventh Circle of Well, Chain House/Keroo These Are Zoot Suits, Chain House/Planet Beer TV Bright Light/Bright Heat, Yonder Maple, Banana & Blueberry Pancakes, Trig Faff Clan, Nothing Bound Claybrook, MakeMake Space Soda, Keroo Queenie & Campervan Extra Black.

I like the beer and cider choice here but the bar was too packed to be enjoyable.

Backstreet reconfigured industrial outlet with the usual spartan hipster stylings. Two cask – neither of them being theirs - plus about 10 or so craftykegs. Tried the Triple Point brew which was poor in execution but in good nick on the pour (NBSS 3.5). Technical GBG tick but I’d see no need to do it again given the quality elsewhere in the city.

small brewery/micropub tucked away off Friargate with a couple of guest cask and lots of keg, with just a few of their own beers on. I tried a session IPA and it was pretty palatable on a nice afternoon. It’s a reasonable friendly place but with no one else in on a Saturday lunchtime I felt like I was just passing time. Standard brewpub furniture inside with brewing equipment on show. Hopefully it does well as Preston needs places like this, but I expected a bit more of their own stuff on tap?
