Greene King eatery in a genuinely historic building. Bit of a pain for a pedestrian to get to from Markfield itself especially the horror dual carriage and roundabout. Rambling entrance giving way to a jumbo main bar with a COVID paintbrush at play bit to be fair there's some nice sanded wood trim and beams which were clearly dark varnished at one point but, given the angle of sun, lightening it up is a fair shout. Central stove and chimney stack which I suspect might well be gas. One cask on, GK IPA, which drank fairly well for the genre (NBSS 3) served-up by a chatty and engaged barmaid. Perhaps I was in a good mood that day but I thought this one was perfectly reasonable for the style and I might well have another look next time I’m in the vicinity. 5.5
